Applied AI Engineer – Remote

Location: England
Renumeration: £80000 - £110000 per annum + + bens + shares

Contract: Permanent

Applied AI Engineer | £90-100k | Fully Remote UK

We’re recruiting an Applied AI Engineer for an ambitious, fast-growing technology business that’s using AI to transform a traditionally manual and operationally complex industry. This is a fully remote position anywhere in the UK, paying £90-100k, with the opportunity to have significant ownership over the architecture and development of production AI systems.

The business already has AI-powered workflows delivering genuine commercial results. The next challenge is to bring those systems together, creating reusable agentic infrastructure that allows new operational processes to be automated quickly and reliably. You’ll join a small, product-focused engineering team, working closely with technical leadership and operational stakeholders to shape how AI is deployed throughout the business.

We’re interested in engineers who can demonstrate:

  • Strong software engineering experience using TypeScript/Node.js and/or Python.

  • Hands-on experience building and deploying AI agents into production.

  • Experience with tool calling, orchestration, context management, structured outputs and agent workflows.

  • A solid understanding of evaluations, observability, tracing, debugging and reliability.

  • Experience using coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor or similar tools as part of a serious engineering workflow.

  • Strong architectural judgement and the ability to decide when LLMs, conventional software or human intervention are appropriate.

  • Experience taking ownership of complex engineering projects from concept through to production.

  • Good communication skills and the confidence to work independently.

This isn’t an AI research position or a role focused on building simple LLM wrappers. You’ll be developing the infrastructure behind business-critical automation, establishing evaluation frameworks, improving agent reliability and creating systems that make future AI development faster and more predictable. There’s considerable freedom to influence technical decisions, engineering standards and the way the team builds software.

If you’ve already built AI systems that real businesses depend on and enjoy solving the challenges involved in making agents work reliably, I’d be interested in speaking with you. Please apply with your latest CV and ideally a brief example of an AI agent or workflow you’ve personally deployed into production.

Applicants must be resident in the UK with unrestricted right to work. Visa sponsorship is not available. Reach out to Nathan Laidlaw at Transparent Technology for more infomation
